Door Care Advice

PLEASE CHECK YOUR DOOR BEFORE YOU COMMENCE ANY WORK!

DOOR  TO ORDER- Any time of delivery named by the company is an estimate only and the company shall not be liable for the consequences of any delay or costs incurred by the customer.

DIRECTIONS - Doors must be handled with care and stored flat and level in a dry and clean warehouse or storage facilities.

Before door (s) are delivered for installation, ensure that all plaster, texture or cement  must be completely dry as excessive moisture penetration to the door may result in breakdown of joints. It is very important that all six surfaces (which include both faces and all four edges) of the door are sealed with adequate base sealer immediately after the wrapping is removed.

Doors should not be fitted were extremes of temperature or humidity may occur, e.g. in a new building where heaters may be being used to dry out rooms, or where heating systems are being tested.

When doors are fitted to new buildings, the following points should be noted:

  1. “Wet trades” should have finished and the rooms separated by the door should have properly dried out.
  2. Doors should be left ajar to ensure that conditions on both sides of the door are the same.
  3. When heating is first turned on it should be left at low temperatures so that the extremes of heat or humidity are not caused – and again doors should be left ajar to allow heat to equalize on both sides of the door.
  4. There should be plenty of ventilation in new buildings 24 hours a day, especially when the heating system is first used.

INSPECTION – Check carefully that the door to be installed is fully acceptable and in good condition prior to leaving these premises. Any defects will not be taken into consideration once the doors have left the premises.

TRIMMING TO SIZE – If the door has to be reduced in size, (check with supplier for maximum recommended amounts)

Ensure that equal amounts of wood should be taken from both sides and/or the top/bottom of door, allowing for the sealing costs. Avoid fitting locks at the rail joints.

FINISHING AND PROTECTING – It is most important that the door is fully sealed on all six surfaces, including cut outs and use a good water repellant wood protective treatment. In accordance with the British code of practice 151.

We suggest additional treatment may be needed to last once a year if there is any indication of deterioration in the wood protective finish.

Minor swelling and shrinking of wood parts is not a defect within the meaning of this limited warranty, but is a normal characteristic of wood that may occur with variation in climatic and atmospheric conditions such as humidity and temperature.

Wrap in the plane of the door itself will be considered a defect only if it exceeds ¼ inch when measured as deviation from a straight edge on the suspected concave surface of the door in its installed position.
